Last week on Fossil Friday, I presented some not-so-tiny toes with some pretty big hints. I said that the fossil was found in what is now Utah, and it dates back to the Jurassic. There was a lot of debate in the comments section, including a discussion of dinosaur gang colors (I don't want to know...)
But GrizzlyD prevailed! He identified the toes as belonging to an Allosaurus fragilis. From the National Park Service:
"Allosaurus, meaning 'different delicate reptile,' is a theropod (meat-eating dinosaur) that probably ate other smaller dinosaurs. Its teeth were up to 3 in (7.6 cm) long and serrated like steak knives for cutting flesh. Adults hunted by overpowering their prey, possibly in small groups."
Thanks for playing Fossil Friday! GrizzlyD, as the winner this week, any special requests for the next Fossil Friday?
