Rhode Island's House Bill 7496 (PDF) would appropriate funds to support "a grant program to promote and enhance climate change and ocean protection programs for youth."
The bill specifies that $250,000 would be appropriated in fiscal year 2024; the amount for subsequent years would be decided by the legislature. Four similar bills introduced in 2023 attempted to appropriate $500,000 yearly for such a grant program; these bills all died in committee when the legislature adjourned, as NCSE previously reported.
Introduced by Jennifer Boylan (D-District 66) and nine of her colleagues on February 2, 2024, House Bill 7496 was referred to the House Finance Committee.
