Dorothy Nelkin Dies

NCSE Supporter Dorothy Nelkin, who as a University Professor at New York University taught in the Department of Sociology and the School of Law, died on May 28, 2003.

As a sociologist of science, Nelkin specialized in studying the often vexed relationship between science and society.

Among the twenty-six books that she wrote or cowrote was The Creation Controversy: Science or Scripture in the Schools (New York: W. W. Norton, 1982), which Kirkus Reviews described as "[a] balanced, dispassionate, richly factual report with a clear philosophical sense of what the furor is all about."
