What we have here is Vinctifer comptoni, a Cretaceous fish originally described (as Aspidorhynchus comptoni) by no less a figure than Louis Agassiz. (It was later relocated to Vinctifer by the ichthyologist David Starr Jordan, when he wasn’t frittering away his time as president of Indiana University or Stanford University.)
