Although a bill requiring the teaching of climate change consistent with the Next Generation Science Standards as part of the prescribed course of study in the state's public schools died when the Connecticut legislature adjourned sine die on May 4, 2022, the relevant provision of the bill was included in the state budget, which was passed by both houses on May 3, 2022, and then signed by Governor Ned Lamont.
"Considering the threat of climate change to younger populations and future generations, it is of the highest necessity for Connecticut schools to teach the science of climate change so that youth will be equipped with the tools to think critically and will be prepared to participate in the growing green economy," commented Alex Rodriguez, climate advocate at Save the Sound, in a May 4, 2022, press release.
