NCSE was among the signatories of a letter calling on New York's leaders to include funding for climate education in its 2024 budget. "Climate education must not be an afterthought, but an integral part of New York State's policy agendas and budgets in FY 24 and beyond," the letter (PDF) declared, adding, "We respectfully request a total allocation of $12 million in the state education budget with consideration for annual budgetary increases specifically for P-12 climate education." The letter continued by offering specific recommendations for these funds, such as establishing a climate education resource hub for the state and providing professional development on interdisciplinary climate education for in-service P-12 educators. The letter was organized by the Climate and Resilience Education Task Force, managed by the National Wildlife Federation and WE ACT for Environmental Justice.
