NCSE's deputy director Glenn Branch contributed "Science Teachers in the Hot Seat: Climate Change Education in a Polarized Society" to the Winter 2019-2020 issue of American Educator, published by the American Federation of Teachers.
Using the opposed legislative efforts regarding climate change education in Connecticut in 2019 as a frame for his essay, Branch discussed the treatment of climate change in state science standards, reviewed the results of the 2014 NCSE/Penn State survey of climate change educators (PDF), and explained NCSE's current efforts to support science educators in teaching climate change. He concluded by recommending "steps that will genuinely help to ensure that today’s students are equipped with the knowledge and know-how necessary for them to flourish in tomorrow's warming world."
