NCSE's climate change lessons for teachers — which not only engage students through evidence-based learning but also inoculate them against misinformation — were discussed in the Los Angeles Times (May 6, 2019).
Brad Hoge, NCSE's Director of Teacher Support, told the newspaper that teachers who have been using the lessons report that many of their students feel more comfortable discussing climate change with their parents. Hoge's point reinforces a new study, discussed in a related story in the Times (May 6, 2019), that indicates that teaching children about climate change in schools increases their parents' concerns about it. NCSE Teacher Ambassadors Rebecca Brewer and Jeremy Cook are featured in the latter story.
So far, Hoge told the Times, about sixty-five teachers are using NCSE's climate change lessons; as many as five hundred may do so by next year. Lessons on evolution and lessons on the nature of science are under development.
