About 87 percent of Canadians accept that global warming is a fact, but the percentage who attribute global warming to human activity fell by nine percentage points, from 69 percent to 60 percent, since 2022, according to a new poll from Research Co.
Asked "Which of the following statements comes closest to your view of global warming (or climate change)," 60 percent of respondents preferred "Global warming is a fact and is mostly caused by emissions from vehicles and industrial facilities," while 27 percent preferred "Global warming is a fact and is mostly caused by natural changes," and 8 percent preferred "Global warming is a theory that has not yet been proven"; 6 percent indicated that they were not sure.
The results "are based on an online study conducted from July 22 to July 24, 2023, among 1,000 adults in Canada. The data has been statistically weighted according to Canadian census figures for age, gender and region. The margin of error ... is +/- 3.1 percentage points" at the 95% confidence level.
