Sometimes religious believers are genuinely confused about what to believe concerning evolution. They may have heard sound bites from their own or other religious leaders, trying to convince them that accepting evolution necessarily leads to atheism. Or they may have heard that believing the message of the Bible means they have to accept a literalist reading of it. But the fact is that most mainstream Christian denominations have made peace with evolutionary biology, and many have issued formal statements to that effect.
