Three "intelligent design" bills died in Oklahoma on February 29, 2024, when a deadline for bills to pass committee in their house of origin expired.
Senate Bill 1871 (PDF) would, if enacted, have required any public or charter school teacher who teaches evolution to "also provide instruction to students on the concepts of creationism and/or intelligent design."
House Bill 3122 (PDF) and House Bill 3543 (PDF), both styled the Oklahoma Freedom of Religious Expression Act, would, if enacted, have permitted teachers "to teach and discuss the theory of intelligent design."
Resistance to the bills was coordinated by the grassroots pro-science-education organization Oklahomans for Excellence in Science Education.
